French Car maker Renault has launched its all-new SUV Captur in India. Its price starts at Rs 9.99 lakh for the base petrol RXE variant and goes up to Rs 13.88 lakh for the top-end Platine variant (ex-showroom, Delhi) that is only available in diesel. The Captur has been slotted above the Duster SUV and will take on the segment’s bestseller, the Hyundai Creta.

On the outside, the car carries a more traditional SUV stance, unlike other vehicles. It looks stylish with its swooping lines and a steeply raked A-pillar.The SUV is based on the M0 platform that also underpins the Duster.

In terms of features, the SUV includes LED headlamps with daytime running lamps and Audi-like dynamic turn indicators, smart access card for keyless entry and 17-inch alloy wheels. There’s a 7.0-inch touch screen multimedia system that offers a number of connectivity options such as Bluetooth, USB, aux-in, integrated maps and navigation.

The SUV gets a premium looking cabin with seats finished in white and black faux-leather, and the interiors come with twin white and gold tone and ambient LED lighting. The boot space is rated at 392 liters.

The Captur comes with two engine options, the familiar 1.5-litre K9K diesel that’s good for 110hp which also powers the Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano, and the 1.5-litre petrol which churns out 106hp and 142Nm of torque. Safety features on the Captur include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist. Renault has stated that the Captur is also certified for offset frontal and lateral crash.

The Captur definitely has its looks and size going for it, but will it be enough to attract customers from the Hyundai Creta?
