Guo Pei’s 'L’architecture' Runway Looks For Fall-Winter 2018/19 Will Leave You Spellbound

Guo Pei swings is best known for designing dresses for Chinese celebrities and in America for Rihanna's trailing yellow gown at the 2015 Met Ball.

She swings between reality and fantasy as easily as one walks through a door. Each look pushed the envelope on a technique that the Chinese couturier harnesses when her real-life clients come calling: appliqués, beading, pleating, fringing. 

At a time where commercial realities abound even in couture, Guo Pei approaches creation is an end unto itself. Who cares if her designs look like they belong in the costume department of an opera house? The upside of ambitious Chinese designer Guo Pei’s show appreciating the life-size Romanesque, Gothic, and Neoclassic molds within the vast gallery of the Cité de l’Architecture, interpreted them as vaulted pannier skirts, arched necklines, quatrefoil lace, and rose window embroideries.
