IPL 2018 Player Auction: Virat Kohli The Most Expensive Player Rs 17 Crore

The 2018 season of the Indian Premier League, also known as IPL 11 will be the eleventh season of the IPL, a professional Twenty20 cricket league established by the BCCI in 2007. The season, which will be held from April 4 to May 27, will see the return of the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals after serving two years of suspension for the involvement of their respective owners in the 2013 IPL betting case. Star Sports Bagged the media rights at Rs.16,347.5crore ($2.55 billions) for five years starting from 2018.

Highlights of IPL 2108- Two franchises super kings and Rajasthan Royals will mark their return to IPL fold. Each team can opt for up to three players by virtue of a combination of Players Retention and Right to Match. Each squad can consist of a maximum number of 25 players (up to 8 Overseas Players) and a minimum of 18.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was back at his 'spiritual home' Chennai Super Kings while Royal Challengers Bangalore retained Indian Caption Virat Kohli during the much-publicised yet predictable India Premier League retentions.

Mumbai Indians had the league's most successful captain Rohit Sharma back in their stable as most of the retentions happened on expected lines.

Currently Australia skipper, Steve Smith was Rajasthan Royal's only pick while his deputy David Warner remains with Sunrisers Hyderabad along with pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

"It was a great opportunity to retain some players. we want to pick impact players who can take team forward. Warner and Bhuvneshwar are impact players and impact is the right word for SRH," team mentor VVS Laxman said after the retention process ended.

Kings XI Punjab had left-arm spinner Axar Patel in their ranks while South African Chris Morris, young guns Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer are back with Delhi Daredevils.

DD CEO Hemant Dua said:"Ricky Ponting has been appointed as head coach and we are going with the idea of having continuity. We have retained two youngsters and the whole team will be built around them. Chris Morris is a top all-rounder."

The franchises that have gone for full three retentions are CSK, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils and RCB.

For Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandaya and Jasprit Bumrah are second and third retention.

CSK have retained their powerhouse performers Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina as their second and third choice respectively.

AB de Villiers is RCB's second retention while they kept uncapped Sarfaraz Khan for Rs.3 crore while putting Chris Gayle back in the auction Pool. Virat Kohli, the highest paid player in the auction for Rs.17 crore.
