Shardul Thakur Replaces Jasprit Bumrah In ODI Squad Against England

The Indian cricket team suffered a big blow right at the start of the England tour, India's death specialist bowler Jasprit Bumrah sustained an injury on his left thumb after the 1st T20I against Ireland.

The Right-arm fast bowler Shardul Thakur was named on Friday as the replacement of Bumrah for the upcoming ODI series against England.

Bumrah had undergone a surgery in Leeds on 4th July and has returned to India for rehabilitation under the BCCI medicare center.

According to BCCI, "The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Shardul Thakur as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in India’s ODI squad. After the Injury ruled out the fast-bowler of the ongoing T20I series against England".

This is the second injury to India's ODI camp before the series, with spinner Washington Sundar being ruled out earlier with an ankle problem and was replaced by Axar Patel.

Shardul last played for India in the Nidahas Trophy T20I Tri-series held in Sri-Lanka in March 2018. The 26-year-old bowler was already in England, played an important role in the India A team that has recently won the Tri-series involving England Lions and West Indies A.

Shardul has played 3 ODIs and 7 T20I for India picking up 5 and 8 wickets respectively. India has several pace options to call on in Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Siddarth Kaul and now Shardul is also to the lineup
