Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan has suspended for 5 months for violation the Anti-Dope restrictions of BCCI on Tuesday. The cricketer is already in the procession of completing the retroactive five-month ban on January 14, which was handed to him for inadvertently ingesting a prohibited substance.

Yusuf's active case became complicated when BCCI accepted his plea claiming that the violation was inadvertent. However, Maggie Durand, WADA's Media Relations and Communications Manager confirmed, "As this is a pending case, we are not in a position to comment."

The response was to the query made by PTI asking if the ban imposed on Pathan was WADA-compliant as the WADA Doping Code of 2015 invokes a four-year suspension on a  first-time offender automatically.

Pathan only played one match for his team in Ranji Trophy this year before the Baroda's state association was asked by the BCCI to not pick Yusuf. The player was charged with the commission of an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) under the BCCI Anti-Doping Rules (ADR) Article 2.1 on October 27, 2017.

The player was charged but the provisional suspension was pending. A source has confirmed that Pathan has ingested a medicine named Brozeet containing Terbutaline as he was unwell but was unable to apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption.

"Having considered all of the evidence and taken expert external advice, the BCCI has accepted Mr Pathan's explanation of the cause of his ADRV, and on that basis has agreed that a period of ineligibility of five months should apply, together with the disqualification of certain results," the BCCI stated.

The ban on Pathan might affect his stint in IPL, the 11th season of which will commence soon. Yusuf has played 57 ODIs and 22 T20 Internationals for the nation. His last international appearance was against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2012. He is a regular player of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL since 2011.
