Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, who was last seen in the movie Raid, is all set to play Chanakya in Neeraj Pandey's film. The movie will be based on 4th century BC scholar, advisor, economist and political strategist Chanakya.

Ajay made the announcement on his twitter handle by tweeting, "Looking forward to playing #Chanakya, a film about one of the greatest thinkers in Indian History, directed by @neerajpofficial @RelianceEnt @FFW_Official @PlanC_Studios @ShitalBhatiaFFW."

Ajay will be collaborating with Neeraj for the first time and said that he is excited to work with the director.

"I am truly looking forward to playing Chanakya. I’ve followed Neeraj Pandey’s work closely and I know Neeraj will tell this story with the clarity and passion with which it needs to be told," Devgn said in a statement.

The movie is produced by Reliance Entertainment, Friday Filmworks and Plan C Studios. Chanakya assisted the first Mauryan empire Chandragupta in his rise to power. Also identified as Vishnugupta and Kautilya, he lived in 371 BC in India and is considered the pioneer of the field of political science and economics in India.

He is widely credited for having played an important role in the establishment of the Maurya Empire. Chanakya served as the chief advisor to both emperors Chandragupta and his son Bindusara. His work is thought of as an important precursor to classical economics. The release date for the movie and the rest of the cast is yet to be finalised.
