MAA Lifts Ban Imposed On Sri Reddy Over Strip Protesting In Public Against Sexual Harassment

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu action over the sexual harassment allegations levelled by Telugu actress Sri Reddy and has sent notices to the Telangana government and the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry to look into the matter.

Few hours after the development, Telugu Movie Artists' Association (MAA), which had banned the actress along with all the artists who have worked with her in the past describing her act of strip protesting publically disgraceful has lifted the ban on Sri Reddy.

Confirming the news, MAA President Shivaji Raja said, "We will set up a Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) to deal with issues relating to sexual harassment. She (Sri Reddy) can apply for membership which will be dealt with as per procedure. We are lifting the ban on her."

Sri Reddy's allegations have prompted the authorities to look into the presence of evils like sexual harassment and casting couch in Tollywood. She also questioned the absence of a Committee Against Sexual Harassment, following which NHRC has taken a suo motu cognizance about the lack of grievance redressal mechanism for women in the film industry.

Earlier MAA has confirmed, "MAA had not only dismissed her allegations but also declared that she would not be given its membership under any circumstances. It also said that action would be taken against any artiste who would share screen space with her."

However, the MAA President has now confirmed that no member of the association holds a personal grudge against the actress but her allegations have hurt the artists, which is why she was banned. Now though, the ban has been lifted and she is free to work with over 900 artists.

Telugu actress Sri Reddy, who has worked in 3 films so far, shook the entire Telugu cinema when she strip protested in front of Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce on April 7 against casting couch and sexual exploitation in Tollywood and demanded justice for herself and other victims.

She has revealed names of several top artists who are involved in the shameful act. Apart from accusing the renowned director Sekhar Kammula of involvement in casting couch and singer Sreeram Chandra of sending her lewd messages, she has also accused leading producer Suresh Babu's son Abhiram Daggubati of forcing her into having sex with him.

Wheels started moving only after NHRC came in support. Why MAA suddenly changed its stance on blocking the person? All words of her Need to be thoroughly investigated by govt agencies in full so as to locate & punish the real culprits & save innocents. Also she need to give formal written complaint along with evidence she have with govt police for initiating investigating into this issues.
