Ashutosh Gowariker's irreplaceable love for period dramas is ready to spread its wing once again with the recreation of the legendary third battle of 'Panipat'. The filmmaker's determination for bringing the interesting chapters of history to life will be tested and his loyal audience can't be more excited.

With the note-worthy cast of Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon, the high-octane action drama is expected to bring back the glorifying days of 'Jodhaa Akbar' for the director who didn't let the debacle of 'Mohenjo Daro' dampen his spirits and will to film the epic battles.

Having a proud cast and crew for being a part of bringing the valour of Maratha warriors to the big screen, the makers revealed the first look of their ambitious film titled 'Panipat- The Great Betrayal'. With the yellow, orange and golden colour scheme, the posters transport the right emotions regarding the impending war.

With a warrior's hand holding a well-crafted sword and warriors taking up the battlefield in the background, the image appropriately conveys the dynamics of the movie. The first look has surely excited the filmmaker and actors' fan base, all of whom have taken it upon themselves to keep the poster trending all day.

Talking about choosing the specified cast, Ashutosh said, "I have shared screen space with Sanjay in NAAM, which was a memorable co-acting experience and now it will be great to direct such a versatile and immensely talented actor as him."

About the younger ones, he added, "What impresses me most about Arjun, apart from his fine performances – is his dynamism. He has played double roles twice, and he has portrayed an action hero as well as a lover boy. I needed someone really beautiful as well as a good performer, and Kriti is both."

He concluded, "The eclectic combination of these three is a first for me, and I look forward to this exciting journey with them called PANIPAT." Arjun will likely play the role of Panipat army's Commander-in-Chief Bhausaheb while Sanjay might enter the shoes of the antagonist, Ahmad Shah Abdali -Sultan of Durrani Empire.

The great battle of Panipat was fought between the northern expeditionary force of the Maratha Empire and invading forces of the King of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Abdali, supported by two Indian allies—the Rohilla Afghans of the Doab, and Shuja-ud-Daula, the Nawab of Awadh.

Earlier, Ashutosh has given Indian cinema the super hit historic dramas like 'Lagaan' and 'Jodhaa Akbar' and is ready direct another cinematic delight. Bankrolled by Gowarikar's wife Sunita and Rohit Shelatkar's company, Vision World, 'Panipat' is slated to hit the theatres on December 6, 2019.
