India On Way To Set New 'Khichdi' World Record Of Preparing 800 Kgs Of Humble Dish

It was only recently that a debate over declaring the humble 'Khichdi' as the national dish of India was stirred among the masses and now the nation is all ready to get the respectful dish in the world record. Renowned chef Sanjeev Kapoor has taken up the challenge to cook over 800 Kgs of Khichdi at the World Food India event to popularise the Indian dish, globally.

The mammoth task which is currently underway at India Gate is using a giant kadhai (frying pan) of 7-feet diameter with the capacity to hold 1,000 litres for the purpose. Once the Khichdi is prepared, it will be distributed to among 60,000 orphan children and guests present at the event.

In the latest report, the Khichdi has been prepared and served among the audience as well as the Indian and foreign dignitaries present at the event. Although, the dish is yet to be weighed and the final result will take five days to 12 weeks but the large batch prepared by Sanjeev and team will surely pass the defined the figures.

The recipe of the cooked dish will then be presented to the Heads of Foreign Missions who are currently in India along with the sample of the humble meal. The government has issued an official statement confirming that Indian Foreign Missions will popularise the dish all over the world and make sure that it is available in renowned restaurants and kitchens.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the mega food event, 'World Food India' 2017 in New Delhi on Friday from Vigyan Bhavan. World Food India is a 3-day event which is organised by Food Processing Industries Ministry aiming to facilitate participation between domestic and international businesses.

While many are arguing that Khichdi is a food consumed when people are sick and shouldn't be made the national food, the Food Processing Ministry chief, Harsmirat Kaur Badal justified that the humble dish is enjoyed by everyone without any monetary barrier.

Kaur said, "Khichdi is the wonder staple food of India and is considered the healthiest prepared food in India and it is being eaten across length and breadth of India by rich and poor." She added, "Khichdi symbolises India’s great culture of unity in diversity at its best. Therefore, Khichdi has been selected the Brand India Food."
