| July 4 , 2018 , 14:40 IST

Controversial preacher Zakir Naik on Wednesday defied the news of his coming to India. It was reported in the media that Naik is coming back to India.

A report from news channel NDTV quoted a malaysian government official saying, “He is out of the country tonight. He will be taking a flight to India today I believe.”

Naik defied the news, speaking to ANI, he said, “The news of my coming to India is totally baseless and false. I have no plans to come to India till I don't feel safe from unfair prosecution. Insha Allah when I feel that the government will be just and fair, I will surely return to my homeland.”

The Chief of National Investigation Agency (NIA) while speaking to news agency ANI said, “We have no such information as of now. We are verifying it.”

The Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), an NGO by Naik, was declared illegal in 2016. The ED is probing allegations of money laundering to the tune of more than Rs 18 crore. Bangladesh had cited Naik's speeches on a television channel as the reason for an attack in Dhaka wherein 22 people were killed.

Zakir Naik is booked under section 153 (a) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for promoting enmity among different religions and also under sections 10, 13 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, for being a member of an unlawful association, abetting an unlawful activity and criminal conspiracy.
