Nation Pays Tribute To Nightingale Of India, Sarojini Naidu On Her 139th Birth Anniversary

The Nightingale of India, Sarojini Naidu born on February 13, 1879 in Hyderabad
was a freedom fighter and poet of modern India. She was the first woman Governor of India who took part in India’s National Movement, with Mahatma Gandhi for the attainment of Swaraj.

Sarojini Naidu was born in a Bengali Hindu family and was known for her achievements in poetry. Her poems were known to have imagery and gestures of ideal love. Her writing career began at the age of 13 and her major contribution in the field of poetry was 'The Broken Wings' which was published in the year 1905.

Naidu played a pivotal role during the Civil Disobedience movement. She also faced arrest in 1942 during the "Quit India" movement and was jailed for 21 months with Mahatma Gandhi.
