Venus Williams cut her younger sister Serena’s comeback short by defeating her in the third round of Indian Wells Open on Monday. She won in straight sets by 6-4, 6-4.

Returning after more than a year away from the game after having a baby, Serena put up a good fight, saving match point while trailing 5-2 in the second set, but her rustiness told in the end.

Venus told reporters that she never counted the 23-times grand slam champion as out of the match.

“I always know that it’s never over until it’s over,” she said.“She kept roaring back, I’m just lucky that I’ve played more matches than her right now.”

Venus broke Serena’s service four times in two sets which set up her win in the third round. The head-to-head record is 17-12, still in favour of Serena now.

World number one Roger Federer cruised past Filip Krajinovic in less than an hour, mixing overpowering serves and pinpoint groundstrokes to advance to the fourth round of the tournament.

However, he made the news for a different reason as he was seen being hyperactive on Twitter with his fans, surprising them by replying to them and retweeting tweets.
