The former captain of Indian Football team Bhaichung Bhutia has believed in encouraging the youth for taking up the sport professionally. However, during his journey, the player has come across various reasons which scare the new entrants away.

Talking about the ways to encourage people for joining football in India, Bhaichung feels that the strengthening club culture and attractive remuneration are musts. Sachin Tendulkar has earlier raised voice against the issue of financial insecurity among athletes in India.

The former cricketer has expressed that lesser pay refrains the players from focusing on their sport individually as their career. Agreeing with the legendary batsman, Bhutia admitted that good remuneration indeed helps in choosing the career.

However, Bhaichung also noted that the advent of professional leagues in various sports discipline has improved the aspect of a career in sports immensely. He believes that the long-standing football culture has helped the players in earning a decent livelihood.

Bhaichung Bhutia admitted, "I guess the club structure in any sport has to be strong. The incentive for sportspersons when they do well at state and national levels has to be good. And corporates have to come up (in a bigger way) and sponsor."

The 41-year-old also emphasised the importance of health insurance for national-level athletes but a good pay attracts the players more than health security. He concluded, "one should have good club structure, which offers attractive professional contracts to players."
